Dhaka-Some 8,99,150 students have passed this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations showing a pass rate of 74.70 percent, up 5.10 percent than the previous year.Education Minister Nurul Islam revealed the briefs of the HSC and equivalent examination results on Thursday morning after officially handing over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban.
The pass rate in the HSC and equivalent exams last year was 69.60 percent when some 7,38,872 students passed the examinations.
The Education Minister said some 12,03,640 students took part in the HSC and equivalent exams of all the 10 boards, including Madrasah Education Board and Technical Education Board, this year with examinees 1,42,026 sitting for the exams, with 10,61,614 higher than last year’s.
He said some 58,276 examinees in all the education boards got GPA 5 this year, up from last year’s 42,894.
Besides, some 25 educational institutions witnessed a zero pass rate this year against last year’s 35.
After receiving the results, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated the students as well as the teachers, and the guardians for the successes of the students.
Nahid said the pass rate of male students in the HSC and its equivalent exams this year is 73.93 percent whereas the pass rate of the female students is 75.60 percent.
The Education Minister said some 29, 325 more female students took part in this year’s HSC exams than the male students whereas some 7,629 more female students came out successful.
The number of educational institutions in this year’s HSC and equivalent exams also rose to 8,345 up from 8,294 last year. The number of exam centers also increased to 2,621 this year, up from last year’s 2,420.
Out of the eight Education Boards under HSC exams, some 10,07,053 students took part in this year’s exams where some 7,29,803 students passed with a success rate of 72.47 percent.
The total number of examinees in the HSC exams last year was 8,76,476 when some 5,57,087 students came out successful with a success rate of 65.84 percent.
Some 48,950 students got GPA 5 in this year’s HSC exams, up from last year’s 34,721.
Under the Madrasha Education Board, some 89,603 students participated in this year’s exams against last year’s 79,020 students when the success rate was 88.19 percent.
Last year, some 82,558 students took part in the examinations under Madrasah Board when some 74,461 students passed with a success rate of 90.19 percent. Some 2414 students got GPA 5 this year under this Board, up from last year’s 1,135.
In the Technical Education Board, some 1,02,248 students took part in this year’s exams against 86,469 students passed it with a success rate of 84.57 percent with some 6,587 students achieving GPA 5.
Last year, some 98,296 students took part in the HSC equivalent exams when some 84,125 students passed it with a success rate of 85.58 percent, while 6,430 students getting the GPA 5.
The examinees will get their results at their respective examination centres, websites of their respective education boards and through short message service (SMS) after 2:00pm, said ministry officials.
