Dhaka, 11 Jan – A two-day business development conference of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited was began at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka on January 11, 2018 Thursday. Arastoo Khan, Chairman of the bank inaugurated the conference as chief guest. Presided over by Md. Abdul Hamid Miah, Managing Director and CEO, the conference addressed by Md. Shahabuddin, Vice Chairman, Major General (Retd.) Engr. Abdul Matin, Chairman, Executive Committee, Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman, Chairman, Audit Committee, Helal Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman, Risk Management Committee, Professor Dr. Qazi Shahidul Alam, Mohammed Humayun Kabir, FCA, Md. Syful Islam, FCA, FCMA, Md. Joynal Abedin, Md. Mizanur Rahman, Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Karim, Professor Md. Nazmul Hassan, Ph.D, Syed Abu Asad and Md. Mosaddake-Ul- Alam, Directors of the bank as special guest.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdus Samad, Member Secretary of the Shariah Supervisory Committee also addressed in the program. Thanking the audience Md. The conference disclosed that as on December 31, 2017 IBBL has reached deposit milestone of Tk.751 billion by adding more than Tk.72 billion in its deposit portfolio. The bank has achieved general investment base of Tk.701 billion increasing Tk.84 billion over the previous year. IBBL has consolidated its leadership in handling import, export and remittance business of Tk. 385 billion, Tk. 240 billion and Tk. 233 billion respectively in 2017.
Arastoo Khan, Chairman said in the speech of the chief guest that Shariah is the key-factor of Islami Bank. He said Islami Bank has become the best bank in the country due to having proper compliance of Shariah principles, time-demanding and appropriate guidelines from the board of directors, management techniques from the managing authorities, professional skills, honesty and sincere service of the employees.
Bangladesh is on the highway of development and become a universal model of development. Islami Bank has been playing a partnering role with the government in development. He has directed the managers to contribute more to the national economy through the full professional attitude in banking operations.
Md. Shahabuddin, Vice Chairman said in his speech, Islami Bank has been carrying out its banking business for all, irrespective of religion and caste, following the laws of the state and complying the rules and regulations of the regulatory authorities. This bank of peoples trust is now a model of compliance culture and professionalism. He urged the managers to spread the culture to the local and international levels. In order to build middle-income between 2021 and a prosperous country by 2041, he urged the bankers to work more comprehensively.
Md. Abdul Hamid Miah, Managing Director and CEO said, Islami Bank is working for the welfare of the deprived, backward and underprivileged people through extensive financial inclusion, need based investment, social responsibility and rural development scheme. Prioritizing the agriculture sector of the country, Islami Bank is providing the highest investment in small and medium enterprises development, transportation and housing sectors.
