Dhaka, – New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first against Bangladesh in their 3rd and last group match of the 8th ICC Champions Trophy at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Friday. The match was delayed to start due to wet-outfield triggered by several spells of rain in Cardiff from Friday morning. The match was scheduled to start at 3:30pm (Bangladesh time), but delayed one hour as it has been rescheduled to start at 4:30pm without curtailing any over. The match is a must-win for both sides to stay in the last-four race with England. The losers of the game will have to exit from group stage of the eight-nation tournament. If the day’s match witnesses a wash out and England beat Australia within a certain amount of overs or by a certain amount of runs, Bangladesh will get a chance to proceed to semifinals If England beat Australia by a greater margin than they managed against Bangladesh, the Tigers will also go to semifinals. The last lamp of hope for semifinals berth for both Bangladesh and New Zealand is hanging on a critical equation as the bottom three teams of Group A all have a chance to advance to the last four. The winners of the Bangladesh-New Zealand match can qualify if Australia loss their last game against England, which is scheduled to be held at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Saturday (June 10).If Australia can manage win against England, then both Bangladesh and New Zealand will be eliminated from the race irrespective of any other equations.UNB news agency
