ICT Expo 2016 begins tomorrow


Bangladesh ICT Expo 2016 is going to start on Thursday at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak briefed the media on Tuesday about the exhibition of information and communication technology products.The expo will remain open for all from 10am to 8pm for three days until Saturday.There will be 59 pavilions and 70 stalls.Local and foreign technology experts will take part in a number of seminars to be held at the sidelines of the exhibition.Palak said the event ‘mainly’ aims at promoting the country’s hardware sector.He said Bangladesh’s annual earnings from the export of ICT products has increased from $26 million in 2009 to over $300 million now.

He credited the government’s policy support and the leaders of the industry for the rise in income in this sector.Palak said Bangladesh could save foreign exchange by producing laptops and smartphones instead of importing them.He said production of computers, tabs and laptops will start at the Kaliakoir Hi-Tech
Park in Gazipur within the next two or three years.ICT Secretary Shyam Sundar Shikder said the exhibition also aims at drawing investors’ attention.He claimed the investors will have to spend $49.5 to make a given product in Bangladesh but the production cost of the same item is $70 in other Asian countries like India, Pakistan and China.The ICT Division and Bangladesh Computer Society are organising the exhibition with the slogan – ‘Meet Digital Bangladesh’.
