Improving the degrading environment being caused by climate change impacts has become a burning question to save the planet now.
The opinion came today at a post-rally discussion organised by RDRS Bangladesh, a reputed NGO, at Jagannathpur Union Federation Office under Sadar upazila in observance of the World Environmental Day- 2016 with the theme of ‘Go Wild for Life.’
The NGO in association with Jagannathpur Union Federation observed the day under its Improving Food Security Governance in South & Southeast Asia through Strengthened Participation of Organisations of Marginalised Farmers Regional Project.
The five-year term regional project is being implemented in Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Myanmar to improve livelihood of 10.20 lakh marginalized households, including ethnic communities, with assistance of European Union and Dan Church Aid.
Earlier, a colourful rally, participated by officials and executives, public representatives, students and teachers, professionals, civil society members, socio-cultural activists and elite of the area, was brought out in the locality.
Besides, a human chain was formed with the slogan of ‘Wild Animals and Environment Save Nature and Country’ and saplings were distributed among all 250 participants in the rally and human chain.
With President of the Ad-hoc Committee of Jagannathpur Union Federation Soilen Chandra Roy in the chair, newly elected Chairman of Jagannathpur Union Alal Master attended the discussion as chief guest.
Programme Manager Ziaul Islam of RDRS Bangladesh for Thakurgaon, its Manager of Food Security Governance Project Mahfuz Alam and Agriculture Officer Mahfuzur Rahman also spoke.
The speakers expressed their concern over environmental degradation and stressed on massive tree plantation, stopping indiscriminate tree felling and reducing emission of green house gases for improving environment to ensure a safer planet.
The chief guest said environmental degradation has created threat to the civilization and urged for creating awareness among all citizens and going for massive tree plantation to improve the situation for saving the planet and habitation.
