Outgoing US Ambassador Dan W Mozena on Sunday expressed satisfaction over the progress of US-Bangladesh relation but finds his two failures with one being very ‘personal’. Listing the two failures, the US diplomat said one of them is very personal. “This is the first time I’ve not spoken local language.” Terming it as his personal failure, Mozena said that is such a disappointment for him as he speaks Hindi, Nepali, Portuguese and French. Mozena was addressing a country lecture titled ‘America’s Partnership with Bangladesh: Stronger, Deeper and Broader than Ever’ in the city. The US diplomat said he had not able to bring back Peace Corps volunteers to Bangladesh which he considers as the second failure here in Bangladesh. “I had wanted to bring Peace Corps back…unfortunately I’d not been able to do that… that’s a real personal disappointment for me.” US’ Peace Corps operation in Bangladesh was suspended indefinitely in March 2006 fearing possible attacks on its volunteers. Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, currently Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Human Resources at the Department of State, will be the next US Ambassador to Bangladesh. Marcia will succeed incumbent Ambassador Dan W Mozena who has been serving in Bangladesh since May 2011. US President Barak Obama on Thursday announced his intent to nominate Bernicat as a new Ambassador to Bangladesh, said a White House a statement. – UNB
