An all-round performance from India saw them to register an overwhelming seven-wicket victory over Nepal in a Group D match in the ICC Under-19 World Cup held on Monday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.Put to bat first, India bowlers threatened early inroad picking up wickets in regular intervals and finally restricted Nepal to 169 for 8 in 48 overs.
Opener Rishabh Pant smacked the fastest 50 in Under-19 Internationals– eventually scoring 78 runs off 24 balls– and shared a 124-run opening stand with Ishan Kishan, helped to reach the target making 175 in 18.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.Medium-fast bowler Avesh Khan was the pick of India’s bowler, capturing three wickets for 34 in eight overs. Off-spinner Washington Sundar and left-arm spinner Avesh Khan claimed two wickets apiece.For Nepal, opener Sandeep Sunar made top-scored with 37 runs while middle-order batsman Rajbir Singh added 35. The batting lacked a sizeable partnership and the regular wickets had the innings stuttering.Rishabh Pant of India was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance.The victory gives India top spot in Group D after three matches.
