Info fair, cultural festival against corruption begins in Gaibandha

A two-day information fair and cultural festival against corruption kicked off at Independence Square of the town here on Monday with a call to build corruption free Bangladesh. Sachetan Nagarik Committee (SNC,) formed at the inspiration of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), has organized it to create social awareness among the people against corruption through different programmes. The programmes include discussions, staging drama, cultural function, art competitions for the students and prize distribution. An inaugural function was held last evening with president of SNC Gobinda Lal Das in the chair. Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Ehsan-e-Elahi addressed the function as the chief guest and senior police super Sharif Uddin, director of TIB Dr. Rezwan-ul-Alam, deputy director of DAE Mir Abdur Razzak, executive engineer of LGED M. Belal Hossain and district information officer Sabiha Aktar Lucky were present as special guests. The speakers underscored the need for raising voice and building social movement against corruption to make the nation free from the curse and stigma of corruption. In this context, collective efforts of all, wide-ranging much awareness and continual vigilance from all sectors of the society have become essential to fight corruption, they viewed. Earlier, a procession was brought out from Independence Square in the morning and ended at the same venue after parading main streets of the town. Thirty stalls have been set up in the fair where different government and non government organizations are displaying their service related brochures and CD for the visitors through multimedia projectors. -BSS, Gaibandha
