Dhaka – Dashing Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the 2nd Test against South Africa due to thigh injury what he suffered on September 21 during the three-day pre-series warm-up match at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.Tamim played the 1st Test with the annoying left thigh injury in Potchefstroom, scoring 39 and 0 in Bangladesh’s 333-run defeat.A scan after the 1st Test confirmed that the scale of injury is a grade 1 tear that usually takes four weeks to heal.Soumya Sarkar is likely to replace Tamim as opener in the 2nd Test starting on Friday (Oct 6) at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. The Tigers are hoping Tamim will be fit soon and return for the three-match ODI series recovering the injury through rehab. With this slim hope, he will stay with the team in South Africa. The Tigers are already without their all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who has been rested from the Test series. With Tamim now ruled out, Bangladesh will be without their two highest run-getters in the same Test match for the first time since March 2013, when both missed the Galle Test against Sri Lanka. The 1st ODI will be held at De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberley on October 15.UNB news agency
