BNP urges people to give another push for democracy

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday called upon the people to give another push to ensure fall of the Awami League led 14-party alliance government to restore the democracy.
“The government has become isolated and lost it’s foothold on the ground. Another push to it is needed for removing the government that destroyed the country and snatched the rights of the people and the democracy,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting at Jatiya Press Club.
Bangladesh Kallyan Party, an ally of BNP-led 20-party alliance, organized the meeting to mark its 7th founding anniversary. Maj Gen (Retd) Syed Muhammed Ibrahim, chairman of the organization, presided over the function.Fakhrul said there is no peace and relief in the country as the government has become politically bankrupt.
He alleged that the government is in a hurry to dispose off the “false cases” filed against party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
In this regard, he mentioned that the court was also “illegally” transferred to Alia Madrasha ground and the government was not dealing with thousands of others cases pending before the courts.
The BNP leader regretted that the government has submitted charge sheet against Khaleda Zia ignoring the rules and regulations and said they have also become frustrated taking the matter to the higher court.
He also alleged that the government is compelling the judges to announce verdicts by controlling the judiciary completely.
Referring to the corruption index released by Transparency International, the BNP spokesperson said corruption in the country increased but the Anti-Corruption Commission is giving cleansing certificate that it is decreasing.
“Indeed, the ACC has turned into a B” team” of the government,” he said.
Fakhrul claimed that the government has become friendless internationally and said it has not good relations with other countries including the USA.
BNP joint secretary general Aman Ullah Aman, member-secretary of city BNP Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan, Saifuddin Ahmed Moni, and MM Aminur Rahman, among others, also addressed the meeting. – Staff Reporter
