Italian killing: Arrest order for Quayum

Dhaka-A court of Dhaka on Sunday took cognizance of the charge sheet in Italian citizen Cesare Tavella murder case and issued warrant of arrest for arrest of two fugitives. Magistrate Sabbir Yasir Ahmed of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order. The fugitives are local BNP leader MA Quaiyum and Sohel alias Bhangari Sohel. The court also directed for the attachment of the properties of the fugitives.
On June 28, the Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted the charge sheet of the case to the CMM Court against seven persons, while the court had fixed August 4 for taking into cognizance of the charge sheet. However, on July 16, in response to a petition of Public Prosecutor of the respective court, Abdullah Abu, seeking acceptance of the charge sheet earlier, the CMM Court fixed July 17 to take cognizance of the charge sheet.
Other five accused persons are Quayum’s younger brother Abdul Matin, Tamjid Ahmed Rubel, Russel Chowdhury alias Chakti Russel, Minhajul Arefin alias Bhagne Russel and Shakhawat Hossain.
On September 28, last year, Tavella 50, Project Manager for PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) of the Netherlans-based non-government organization ‘ICC Cooperation’, was shot dead by some miscreants in the capital’s Gulshan Diplomatic Zone.
The case was filed with the police station on the same day. It was transferred to the DB on September 29. Nearly a month after, police arrested Russel Chowdhury, Bhagne Russel, Tamjid Ahmed Rubel and Shakhawat Hossain from the city on October 26 in the case.-Court Correspondent
