Ivy resigns as mayor a month ahead of the NCC election

Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy yesterday tendered her resignation from the mayoral post a month ahead of the NCC elections slated for December 22.She sent her resignation letter to the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives after concluding her last working day at the NCC office at 3:00pm.
Later, talking to reporters, Ivy said all would work together for her election forgetting the differences.
Referring to her development activities during the last five years as the NCC mayor, she said the residents of Narayanganj would evaluate her successes and failures.
“I can tell you one thing I have tried my best so long I had been in the NCC…I have never cheated in my work. I worked taking risk to my life and did not ever bow to any evil forces,” she said.
Ivy said she worked fro truth and protested unjust for that she had to face many humiliations but nothing could stop her going ahead.
She urged the city dwellers to give her another opportunity to serve the people as their own person and considering her past deeds and honesty.
“I want to serve you again and you will give me that opportunity…I hope that you will stay beside me and pray for me,” she said.
Asked about the absence of ruling party leaders and activists beside, her Ivy requested journalists not to pin pric in this connection and said the party people did not come to her as the briefing was held at the NCC.
“You (journalists) will see everyone united and election campaign in the filed of polls,” she added.
On the topic of discussion between her, Shamim Osman and the Prime Minister at Ganabhaban, she said the PM gave directive to all to work together in favour of the party election symbol boat.
Former panel mayor Obaidullah and Abdur Rashid Rashu, among others, were present at the briefing.
Later she along with leaders and activists went to the party office at No 2 Railgate area and paid respect to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreath at his portrait.-STAFF REPORTER
