Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday called a two-day countrywide hartal from Tuesday morning protesting what it said the government conspiracy to kill party senior assistant secretary general Muhammad Kamaruzzaman and demanding his immediate release.
Acting ameer of Jamaat Maqbul Ahmad announced the programme through a press statement immediately after the Supreme Court announced its judgment over Kamaruzzaman’s review petition by upheld its previous verdict and rejected his plea for reviewing death penalty for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.The Jamaat Acting Ameer protested and condemned the “government conspiracy” to kill Jamaat leader Kamaruzzaman.
The Jamaat leader said the people expected that Kamaruzzaman would get justice from his review petition but they had become frustrated at the judgment.
“Kamaruzzaman has become a victim of political vengeance,” he said adding that the people would never allow the government to implement its “conspiracy” to make Jamaat devoid of its leadership.
He alleged that the government has become restless to implement its master plan to obliterate Jamaat.
“That’s why the government had filed fabricated and baseless cases against Kamaruzzaman and arranged for his death sentence by providing testimony against him by partisan people,” he added.
Maqbul Ahmad called upon the people from all sphere of life as well as party leaders and activists to observe the hartal in a peaceful manner.
Ambulances, vehicles of fire service, newspapers and carrying dead bodies will be kept out of preview of hartal, said the press release. – Staff Reporter
