Jamaat’s daylong hartal in greater Ctg Wednesday

Local Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday called a daylong hartal in greater Chittagong for Wednesday protesting the arrest of its 21 leaders and activists.
City Jamaat nayeb-e-ameer Prof Ahsan Ullah told UNB that they would enforce the shutdown in Chittagong, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Cox’s Bazar districts on Wednesday protesting the arrest of the party men.Earlier in the day, police arrested the 21 Jamaat leaders and activists, including its city unit ameer and former MP ANM Shamsul Islam, from the city’s Dewanbazar area.
The law enforcers arrested the Jamaat men from their party office while they were holding a meeting in the afternoon.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Mohiuddin Selim said the Jamaat men were wanted in various cases. – UNB
