Rangpur – A Japanese national was gunned down by unknown miscreants at Alutari in Kaunia upazila on Saturday. The murder is barely a week after the killing of an Italian national in capital Dhaka.
The victim was identified as Hoshi Kunio 55.Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Kaunia Police Station, said two masked miscreants riding a motorcycle intercepted a rickshaw carrying Osikonio and opened fire on him while he was going to his own Napier grass farm in the area around 10:00 am, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead. The miscreants shot two bullets in his chest, and fled the scene, the OC said.
Unknown assailants fired at the Japanese man at Kawnia Upazila’s Alutari Nachniya area.
Meanwhile, arrested four people from the area suspecting their involvement in the killing.
Contacted, an official at the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka told UNB that they are looking into the incident, but he did not elaborate.
Earlier, on September, 28, Italian national Cesare Tavella, 50, an official of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot to death by some miscreants at the end of Road No-90 of the diplomatic zone in Dhaka city’s Gulshan area.
Kawnia police OC Rezaul Karim said they are seeking detailed identity of the murdered Japanese.
The body has been kept at the Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, he said. – News Desk
