Dhaka-Jatiya Party keeps mum over the alleged involvement of its lawmaker AKM Salim Osman in publicly humiliating a school headmaster in Narayanganj.
Party leaders, however, said that they are waiting for having report of the high-powered government inquiry team before taking any action against Salim Osman.
The incident of humiliating Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, the headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar area in the presence of the local MP created huge criticism across the country.
When contacted Jatiya Party senior vice chairman GM Quader said no decision has yet been taken about Salim Osman, MP.
He quoted party chairman HM Ershad as saying, “Decision will be taken on Selim Osman after seeing the report of the government inquiry committee.”
Party secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader echoed Quader saying that Jatiya Party would wait to take decision on Salim Osman until the government high-power committee would place its report.
He said the party would also wait for directive of the High Court that yesterday issued a rule upon the government to explain in two weeks as to why it should not be directed to take necessary legal actions against local lawmaker Selim Osman and other who humiliated the teacher.
Party insiders observe that such an unpardonable incident took place due to exercising absolute power by influential quarters, who treated them above the law.
A senior leader alleged that though Salim Osman elected a lawmaker with JP ticket but he does not communicate with party leaders.
“We cannot disown him since he was elected MP on JP ticket,” he added.
Earlier on Friday Shyamal Kanti Bhakta was beaten up by a mob and made to squat holding his earlobes in presence of the local MP.
The government yesterday formed a new five-member committee to investigate the assault and humiliation of high school headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta for his allegedly offensive comments about religion.-STAFF REPORTER
