‘JCD men’ attack BNP central office?


A group of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal men, ‘deprived of posts’ in its newly formed 736-member mega committee, attacked BNP’s Naya Paltan central office, torching the student body’s office and two motorcycles.Police and witnesses said some JCD leaders and their supporters gathered in front of the BNP’s central office and demonstrated there around 4:00pm as they have got them dropped in the central committee.At one stage, they started damaging the banners and festoons in front of the BNP office and torched two motorcycles parked there.Later, they stormed into the BNP office and vandalised JCD office on the third floor before setting fire to it.Contacted, Paltan police station officer-in-charge Morshed Alam said JCD activists, deprived of posts in the new committee of the BNP’s student body, demonstrated in front of its Nayapaltan office and torched two motorcycles there.He said the demonstrators also damaged JCD offices on the ground and third floors of the BNP office.The OC said additional police members were deployed in front of the BNP office to maintain law and order.He said they are working to find out those involved in the incident.

Earlier on Sunday night, a full-fledged 736-member committee of JCD was announced. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia approved the JCD central committee.Earlier on 14 October, Khaleda had approved a 153-member partial committee of the JCD, making Rajib Ahasn as its president and Akramul Hasan its general secretary.After the announcement of the partial committee, a group of JCD leaders, deprived of posts in the committee, had also demonstrated for a long time demanding the announcement of a fresh committee.However, some of them were inducted in different posts of the 736-member committee.
