JMB ‘man’ held in Chuadanga


Dhaka – Police arrested an alleged member of banned Islamist outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), who served three years in prison in connection with the countrywide series bomb attacks on August 17, 2005, in Chuadanga  early Friday.The arrestee was identified as Sumon Hossain,UNB News Agency Reported.Tozammel Haque, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station,said a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 1 am and arrested him.During overnight interrogation, Sumon divulged important information about the JMB activities, he said. Meanwhile, a court sent the suspected JMB man to jail after police produced him before it showing him arrested under section 54 as there was no case against him.The JMB militants carried out simultaneous bomb attacks mainly at courts and government institutions in 63 district towns on the morning of August 17, 2005, leaving three people dead and hundreds more wounded.Sumon was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment in a case filed in connection with the bomb blast in Meherpur.After his release from jail on completion of the jail term, he again got involved in the militant activities, police said.
