JS takes obituary reference on Larma after 33 years


Parliament yesterday adopted an obituary reference of a leader of the hilly people Manabendra Narayan Larma after 33 years of his death.Larma, the eldest brother of Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma alias Santu Larma, was a member of country’s first parliament in 1973. The country was under military regime during his death on November 10 in 1983.
But no obituary reference was moved in the previous six parliaments at the death of Larma, who was killed in rivalry.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the reference at the beginning of the 12 session of the 10th parliament.
The motion was adopted unanimously as the Speaker mentioned his name while moving separate obituary references among other dignitaries.
Earlier in the 11th session, Rangamati lawmaker Ushatan Talukder in a letter to parliament secretariat drew the attention of the Speaker to include Larma’s name in the obituary reference.
Before electing as an independent lawmaker in 1973, Larma was elected as the member of Gana Parisad of the then East Pakistan in 1970.-Staff Reporter
