Jute harvesting gets momentum in Narsingdi

Harvesting of jute plants get momentum in all the six upazilas of the district following adequate rainfall in the recent days.

The farmers are now engaged in separating fibers with much enthusiasm for getting the high prices of jute in the current season.

A good number of newly harvesting jute have started coming to the local markets. The farmers are very happy to get excellent price of jute this season. The newly harvested jute is being sold at Taka 1200 to TK.1500 per mound (40 Kg) depending on their varieties and qualities.

The market is expected to be flooded with the arrival of new jute within 15 to 20 days as only 25 to 30 percent harvesting of cash crop has so far been completed in the district.

The farmers of the district have brought 3,500 hectares of land under jute farming in the district with the production target of 35,000 bales of jute this year, official sources said.

Talking to BSS, Deputy Director of Department Of Agriculture extension (DAE) Latafat Hossain said the farmers are happy with the adequate rainfall during the last few days as they now able to complete their targeted transplantation of Aman seedling by the schedule time after completion of harvesting of jute.
