Kayum ordered murder of Tavella:Kamal


Former BNP ward commissioner MA Kayum ordered the murder of Italian citizen Cesare Tavella, the home minister says.He revealed the name on Tuesday after initially saying that politicians were behind the murder of the foreigners.Kayum is the joint convener of the party’s Dhaka City unit and a member of the BNP’s National Executive Committee.The minister first made the claim on an Ekattor TV programme.When contacted, he asserted that Kayum’s involvement has come up during the investigation.Asked if Kayum ordered Cesare Tavella’s murder at Gulshan on Sep 28, the minister said, “Yes.”“Our investigation is ongoing. Much else will be known after the investigation,” he said when asked if someone else was involved.BNP leader Kayum contested the 2008 national elections on a BNP ticket for the Gulshan-Badda seat.He was the area’s ward commissioner when BNP’s Sadeque Hossain Khoka was Dhaka’s mayor.Kayum could not be reached for his response.Several BNP leaders said he was out of the country now.Kayum, along with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, have also been implicated in another case on charges of instigating bombing on a march led by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan at Gulshan on Feb 16.
