Khaleda begins argument in Zia Trust graft case

Dhaka – BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia begun placing her, arguments in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Wednesday.In the opening, her lawyer Abdur Rezak Khan noted some alleged “defective” points in the statements of some
witnesses recorded by the court.
After more than three hours of submission of arguments, Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5 set up at old Dhaka’s Alia Madrasa ground,
adjourned the hearing for Wednesday and fixed today to place the remaining arguments on behalf of the defence.
On completion of arguments on Thursday, the court is likely to fix a date for the verdict.
On July 3, 2008, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Model
Police Station for allegedly misusing Tk 2.1 crore from the fund of the trust.
On August 5, 2009, the ACC submitted the charge-sheet of the case against eight persons, including Khaleda Zia, her
son Tariue Rahman, former MP Salimul Haque Kamal alias Econo Kamal and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed.
