Khaleda blames AL, associates for killings, abductions

Terming the present government as a slave and illegal, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday called upon the people to renew the movement to save the country.
“This government is subservient and illegal. Nobody listens to a slave. So, movement has to be launched anew to establish the people’s government. The country has to be saved ,” she said while addressing a meeting of Jatiya Ganotantrik Party to mark its 34th founding anniversary at Institute of Diploma Engineers in the city.The former premier alleged that the ruling Awami League and their associates are carrying out killings, forced disappearances and abductions and said, they would not stop such activities.
“The killings, forced disappearances and abductions will  stop with the establishment of people’s government through a fresh election under non-party government,” she added.
Referring to the reported involvement of a Juba League leader in snatching of JBM militants from prision van recently, Khaleda said the incident proved that AL, Juba League and Chhatra League are involved in militancy and terrorism in the country.
She alleged that nobody is under the control of the AL saying it cannot control it leaders and activists, ministers and lawmakers and even the administration, who are indulged in plundering.
She said there is no government in Bangladesh at this moment and Parliament also does not work. “There is no opposition at all in Parliament and they are part of the illegal government,” she added.
The BNP chairperson said there is still time to take arrange for a fair election through holding talks by shunning the path of drama and acting and spending money from the government exchequer.
“Not only people of the country, all countries want Bangladesh to hold a participatory poll to restore the democracy,” she said.
“We do not know the extent of independent of Bangladesh. It is now independent in name only. There is no real freedom. Because its not desirable to have such an extent the killings, forced disappearance and repressive acts taking place,” she said.
Khaleda asked the government to quit power immediately and said the ongoing anarchy, killing, forced disappearance and abduction would be stopped if there will be a neutral government and EC.
Terming the Election Commission loyal to the government, she said they failed to hold any election in a free and fair manner. “There will be no free and fair election in the country under present EC and they should quit,” she added.
Khaleda strongly criticised the role of anti-corruption commission alleging that the AL people who had nothing now became millionaire overnight but the commission does not see they as they became blind towards them. On the other hand, she said the ACC takes action against the opposition people who protests the misdeeds of the government..
She expressed her concern over the increase of price of essential commodities and the absence of congenial atmosphere at the educational institutions.
She called upon all to get prepared for movement against the government and said the government would not be successful how much it shouts about and threatens.
Presided over by Jagpa president Shafiul Alam Prodhan, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Maulana Ishaque of Khelafat Majlish, Redwan Ahmed of LDP, Jebel Rahman Ghani of Bangladesh NAP, Khandaker Golam Motuza of NDP, MA Rakib of IOJ, Abdul Mobin of Islamic Party, Saifuddin Moni of DL, Ahsan Habib of Jatiya Party (Zafar) Fariduzzaman and Khandaker Lutfor Rahman. – Staff Reporter
