Khaleda demands Anwar, Shaukat release

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday demanded the release of party standing committee member MK Anwar and journalist leader Shawkat Mahmud accusing the government of behaving in a vengeful manner.
“We have been pained to see an elderly party leader like 86-year old MK Anwar was sent to jail when he sought bail after surrounding before a lower court in Comilla even after receing bail from the higher court. Such a behaviour is nothing but an inhuman treatment to a senior leader, showing intolerance and abuse of power,” she said in a statement.The former premier also protested and condemned the arrest one of her adviser and president of BFUJ and former president of Jatiya Press Club Shawkat Mahmud.
She alleged that when BNP had stood up against the undemocratic and fascist activists of the government is carrying out harassment on opposition leaders and activities by filing fictitious and fabricated cases.
Khaleda also accused the government of destroying all the democratic institution living the people in a state of tyrannical rule.
She reiterated that the BNP does not uphold the politics of vengeance and will not pursue the path of vengeance if it is voted to power. “Rather, it will uphold the sprit of national unity,” she added. – Staff Reporter
