BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday distributed cloths, iftar items and cooked food among destitute at 28 spots in the city to mark the 36th death anniversary of party founder President Ziaur Rahman.
The spots where the former premier distributed food include Dhanmondi, Azimpur, Kalabagan, Azad Ground, Nababpur, Nayabazar, Bongsal, Sutrapur Kulutola, Katherpul, Dawaganj, Shampur, Jurain, Kadamtoli, Dolairparh, Hatirpul, Kamalapur, Sabujbagh and Khilgaon.
Standing committee member Mirza Abbas, Dhaka city (South) president Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel, general secretary Kazi Abul Bashar, among others, accompanied her.
Kazi Abul Bashar said that the chairperson distributed share, lunge and iftar items inclduing rice, pulse, edible oil, vermicelli and sugar.
Earlier in the morning, Khaleda along with party central leaders went to visit mazar of Ziaur Rahman at Sher-Bangla Nagor and placed wreath at the mazar.
She offered fateha and munajat for salvation of the departed soul of the late President.
As part of the programme, the BNP chairperson will distribute cooked food among the destitute at around 20 spots in northern part of the city today.
Meanwhile, Qurankhwani, doa and milad mahdil was held both at the party central office and chairperson’s Gulshan office to mark the day.
Ziaur Rahman was assassinated by a faction of officers of Bangladesh Army, on 30 May 1981, in the south-eastern port city of Chittagong.
