Khaleda leaves Dhaka to perform Hajj pilgrimage

Dhaka – Opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday left Dhaka for Saudi Arabia to perform the holy Hajj at the invitation of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.The former premier departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 5:40pm by a flight of Saudi Airlines, said BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan.
BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman, on the other hand, was scheduled to fly from London to Saudi Arabia at 7:30pm (BDT) to join his mother to perform the Hajj.
Standing committee members-Dr KHandaker MOsharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Abdullah Al Noman, Selima Rahman and Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, among others were present at the airport to see off the BNP leader.
Sources said the BNP chairperson is likely to hold a meeting with his son to discuss organisaitonal matters and latest development in political arena in Bangladesh during her visit to Saudi Arabia as a royal guest.
BNP Vice Chairman Enamul Haque Chowdhury, special assistant Abdus Sattar and her aide Fatema are accompanying her during the visit to Saudia Arabia.
Tarique Rahman’s wife Dr Zobaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman and his late younger brother Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman are also scheduled to join Khaleda from London to perform the Hajj as royal guests of the Saudi king, according to sources.
The former premier is expected to return home on September 22. She last visited Saudi Arabia on July 26, 2013 at the invitation of the Saudi king and returned home on August 7 after performing Umrah. – Staff Reporter
