Khaleda may visit London for treatment, discuss pol dev


BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is likely to leave Dhaka for London for treatment of her eye trouble sometime this week, according to BNP sources.
Briefing reporters the BNP spokeperosn Asaduzzamam Ripon on Monday said that she may leave Dhaka in a copuple of day’s time.
Sources in London said Khaleda’s schedule has not yet been fixed but she may arrive there on August 13 or August 16.
A source in the chairpeorn’s Gulshan office however said that Khaleda is due to leave the country at 11 am today by an Emirates Airlines flight and she may retrun home on August 17.Another source said she may leave Dhaka within four to five days.
“The BNP chief is coming to London for her health check ups including eyes. But during her stay in London, she may have meetings with some poltical leaders including Bangladesh-born MPs like Rausnara Ali and other community leaders,” said a source close to BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.
She (Khaleda) may exhange views with Bangladeshi expatriates in London and local BNP may give her a reception there. She may stay in London for nearly a week or more, the source added.
Earlier, briefing reporter at party central office Ripon, also party’s international affairs secretary, told reporters that it would be her private visit.
“I cannot say the date of her visit but she may leave Dhgaka for London Tuesday or Wednesday,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said the possibility of holding meetings with political leaders is not unusual since she is a leader of major political party.
Khaleda was scheduled to visit to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah during Ramadan and meet her elder son Tarique Rahman, who was also due to go there. Later, the programme was suspended due to unknown reasons.
Infomred sources said, the former premier would discuss with her son the latest development in political arena in back at home, party’s satnd on possible midterm election, party reorganization and future course of action.
Khaleda Zia will also spend her time with Tarique Rahman, daughter in law Jobaida Rahman, grand daughter Jaima Rahman.
This is her first visit to London after the death of of youngest son Arafat Rahman Koko in Malaysia.
Earlier, Khaleda had met with Tarique Rahman, who had been living in a sort of exile in London since 2008 following 1/11 changeover, twice in London. She met Tarique last in the middle of March in 2014.
Meanwhile, a reliable source said BNP acting secretary Mirzxa Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday left Singapore for New York for treatment. – Staff Reporter
