BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Saturday urged political parties to get united to save the country and its people from misrule as the current “unelected” government she said has no responsibility towards them.
“Many top leaders of different political parties are present here. I would like to tell them, let’s sit together and get united to rid the public of the sufferings. We won’t judge who is small and who’s big as we’ll only consider the interests of the country and its people,” she said.Khaleda was addressing an iftar party hosted by 20-party’s component Jatiya Party (Zafar) at Bashundhara’s International Convention Centre in the city.
The BNP chief urged people to pray to the Almighty Allah in this holy moth of Ramadan so that He saves the country and its people from the grasp of this ‘repressive and corrupt’ regimen of what she temed neo-Hitlers.
Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) chief and former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, Jatiya Party (Zafar) chairman Kazi Zafar Ahmed, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president ASM Abdur Rab, Krishak Sramik Janata League joint general secretary Iqbal Siddique, top leaders of the 20-party alliance were, among, others, present.
Criticising the government for what she said importing rotten and uneatable wheat from Brazil, Khaleda said now no one is taking the wheat to consume. “They wanted to supply it to the army and the police who have refused to accept it. Now whom will you give the wheat to? Feed those Awami League men who are already in very fat with the wheat.”
She said the ruling party men are indulging in massive corruption and inflating their pockets by plundering public money. “Those who are now governing the country are not elected with people’s votes. They have no responsibility to do anything for the people. They’ve got their money in Swiss Bank while the people are getting poorer and losing fat, she said.”
Apart from from former president Prof Badruddoza Chowdhury, JP chirman Kazi Zafar Ahmed and secretary general Mostafa Jamal Hainder other leaders of the component parties – including Abdul Latif Nizami, Golam Mortuza, Shafiul Alam Prodhan, Major General SM Ibrahim, Dr. Mustafizurr Rahman Iran, Javel Rahman Ghani, some mid-level Jamaat leaders of the 20-party alliance the iftar mohfil was also attended by Jatiya Samajtqntrik Dal leader ASM Adur Rab, founder of Gonoshahthya Kendra Dr. Zararullah Chowdhury, members of some foreign diplomatic missions, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of National University Prof Mahbbullah, senior Journalist Mahfuzullah and editor of GreenWatch Dhaka Mostafa Kamal Majumder. – Agencies
