BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia appears to a Dhaka court on Thursday in both Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases filed against her and others.
Her counsel Sanaullah Miah told newsmen about Khaleda Zia’s decision to appear to the court over cell phone. Earlier, on September 3 and before that on two other consecutive occasions, she was absent from appearing to the makeshift court at Alia Madrasa premises of Bakshibazar area in the capital showing her health problems.On September 3, Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of the Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka fixed tomorrow (Thursday) for cross-examination of three witnesses.
According to the case docket, the charge sheet of Zia Charitable graft case includes Khaleda Zia and three others on the charge of abusing power to collect Tk 6.19 crore for Zia Charitable Trust during the BNP-led Government’s tenure from 1991 to 1996.
Besides, the docket of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case says the BNP Chairperson, her son Tarique Rahman and four others misappropriated Tk 2.1 crore, forming the charity that existed only on paper.
