BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is finally returning home on Saturday after over two months stay in the British capital London for treatment of her eyes and knees.
Party spokesperson Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon disclosed this at a press conference at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office yesterday.
He said the former premier will return home at 5:00pm on Saturday without completing her treatment considering the critical juncture of the country.
Earlier, Shairul Kabir Khan, an official of the BNP chairperson’s press wing told reporters that Khaleda Zia was scheduled to leave London by an Emirates flight on Friday, and arrive on Dhaka around 4:55pm Saturday.
Khaleda Zia went to London for surgery of her eyes and knees on September 16. She was reunited with her grand children and her elder son Tarique Rahman and celebrated the Eid-ul-Azha with them.
She had to change her return schedule for several times because of advice of her doctors leading to speculations over her return despite big developments in the political arena back home.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters, her lawyer Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokan said on her return Khaleda would appear before the court in two corruption cases.
ACC lawyers on the other hand said action would be taken against the BNP chief if she fails to appear before the court in NIKO corruption case on the scheduled date set for November 26.
In another development, Tarique Rahman asked the party leaders and activists not to celebrate his 51st birth day by cutting cakes, said Asaduzzaman Ripon.
Instead the party has arranged for milad and doa mahfil at party headquarters today as per his directives, he said.
BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Selima Rahman, Dr Osman Farooq and Fazlul Haque Milon, among others, were present at the press conference.
