Land broker’s body found in Narayanganj

Police have found the body of a land broker near the main entrance of the Sonargaon Police Station in Narayanganj.
The victim was identified as Tota Mia, 38, son of Mohabbat Ali of Mirerbagh village under the Jampur union of the Upazila.
Police said Tota’s body was found at around 7am on a pier of the Menikhali River, barely 10 meters away from the police station’s main gate, when several of their members went there to bathe. The body bore injury marks near the right eye and on the head and forehead.
Victim’s family said he was missing since Saturday evening when Sonargaon Police Station’s Assistant Sub-inspector Hemayet Hossain took him out.
His wife Lily Akter told reporters that Hemayet recently bought a piece of disputed land for his brother in Mirerbagh village with Tota’s mediation.
She said the policeman started erecting a boundary wall around the land paying only a part of the land price and before the registration of the plot.
Lily said police station’s wireless operator Firoz Ahmed typed a case petition on his own and took her signature on the paper, which was submitted to file a case.
None was accused in the petition but it was mentioned that the victim had a row with two siblings – Bachchu Mia and Khokon Mia – his neighbours.
Lily demanded an investigation to find out why her husband was called by police.
ASI Hemayet said he called Tota to ‘discuss another matter’.
“I don’t know what happened after went out the police station following a meeting with me,” he said.
Hemayet declined to explain why he started raising walls after paying only a portion of the land value.
Sonargaon Police Station OC Rezaul Haq said they had started probe into the incident.
He said the body had been sent to the Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy.-
