Law to punish Liberation War denial in offing: Anisul

Dhaka – Law Minister Anisul Huq on Thursday said the government is planning to enact a liberation war denial crimes law.
“Formation of a liberation war denial crimes law is the demand of time and the Law Commission is working with its draft. Under the law, action will be taken against those who deny and offend the Liberation War,” he said.
The Law Minister came up with the information while talking to reporters after a meeting with Ekattorer Ghatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee at the ministry.Anisul Huq said another law will be enacted to ensure the safety of witnesses in war crimes cases.
“Where was Khaleda Zia during the Liberation War? Why she didn’t prepare the list of martyred freedom fighters when she was the Prime Minister?” he questioned while replying to a question over Kahleda Zia’s comment on the number of Liberation War martyrs.
Earlier, a team of Ekattorer Ghatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee led by its acting president Shahriar Kabir met the minister at his office.
During the meeting, the leaders of Ekattorer Ghatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee demanded enactment of new law for Liberation War Denial Crimes, Witness Safety Law, compensation from Pakistan for wounded and martyred freedom fighters.
The leaders also demand an amendment to the International Crimes Tribunal Act for trying political parties and forces for committing crimes during the Liberation War.- UNB
