Legal notice seeks judicial probe into Fahim killing

A legal notice was served on the government on Monday seeking a judicial inquiry into the killing of alleged militant Golam Faizullah alias Fahim in a reported gunfight between his associates and police while on remand.
Supreme Court lawyer adv Julfiker Ali Junu sent copies of the notice to the Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Madaripur Police Super and the OC of Madraipur Sadar Police Station by post.
Fahim, who was on a 10-day remand in connection with the attempt on the life of Madaripur college teacher Ripon Chakrawarty, was killed in the reported gun battle at Miarchar in Sadar upazila of Madaripur on June 18.
In his notice, Junu sought clarification on whether Fahim was killed in a gunfight or he was killed to cover up the real incident and save the culprits.
He also said the death of an accused while on police remand is a human rights violation and contrary to the country’s laws.
The notice sender mentioned that he will file a writ petition with the High Court seeking remedies if necessary steps are not taken to initiate a judicial inquiry into the incident within 15 days.
Earlier on June 17, a court placed Fahim on a 10-day remand in connection with the murder attempt on Ripon Chakrawarty.
Ripon Chakrawarty, a mathematics lecturer of Madaripur Government Naziumuddin College, was chopped by some assailants after he answered the doorbell at his residence in the district town on June 15.
Locals caught Fahim while fleeing after the attack and handed him over to police.
