Leopard killed as it attacks Mayor in Sherpur

A curious municipality mayor fell into the wrath of a scared leopard in Sribordi upazila of Sherpur on Wednesday.
Witnesses said Sribordi mayor Abu Syed, 30, was attacked when he went to have a glimpse of the animal which entered a power pump house in Jalkata area of Sribordi upazila town from nearby forests in the morning.

The mayor received severe injuries as the tiger tore off his ear and flesh from the forehead.
Two others who went to rescue the mayor were also wounded. They are named as Nader and Azizul.
Mayor Abu Syed was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital after he was given initial treatment locally.
The mob then beat the leopard to death.
Local people walked round the town carrying the carcass and kept it hanging on the upazila parishad premises. The body of the leopard was handed over to the forest department officials.
Rezaul Karim, assistant forest conservator of Sherpur, identified the eight-foot-long animal as a leopard. He said it might have entered Bangladesh from the forests in Indian state of Meghalaya.
“Scared by the presence of people and as the mayor went closer to it, the leopard perhaps got angry and attacked him,” he said. – Agencies
