Low pressure in the northern Bay of Bengal


Dhaka-A low pressure area has developed in the northern Bay of Bengal and adjoining area late yesterday afternoon with the Meteorological Department asking the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’sBazar, Mongla and Payra raise the local cautionary warning signal number 3.It comes in the wake of departure last week of a depression brewing off a low pressure in the north western Bay .
Met Office sources, meanwhile said, the depression had triggered days of inclement weather with a spell of rains, some of which were heavy at places in the country particularly over Jessore experiencing 265mm of rains in a day last week.
That left a river Kobadak in the area swelling going into spate flowing over its danger level recorded yesterday to 89cm.
But Met Office sources said, there could be another spell of rains in the next five days if the low pressure turns into another depression reinforcing the Monsoon system that has remain active over the country.
