Man dies in Patuakhali ‘shootout’ with RAB


A man in the southern district of Patuakhali has died in what the law enforcers describe as a ‘shootout’.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said the man, identified as Maula Mridha, 36, was accused in several cases filed with the local police.Patuakhali-based RAB-8 Company Commander Fazlur Rahman said that the shooting incident happened early Monday morning in the district town’s Hetalia Badaghat area.He said that a RAB team raided a jungle beside the Kuakata-Patuakhali Highway on reports that a group of armed men was holed out in the area.“The armed men opened fire sensing RAB’s presence, which forced them to retaliate,” said the RAB official. “Maula’s body was found on the spot after the others fled.” He claimed two firearms, some ammunition and 600 methamphetamine pills, locally known as Yaba, were recovered from the scene. – Agencies
