Dhaka – A Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Monday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment in a case for raping a class-V girl in Satkhira.Judge Hosne Ara Aktar handed down the verdict in the noon.The convict is Rana Sardar, 35, son of late Pachu Sardar of Bilganj village of Kalia upazila of Narail district.
The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh, in default, to suffer six months imprisonment further.
According to the case statement, in the allegation of kidnapping the victim and her friend in the same case, he was also sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and was fined Tk 1 lakh, in default, to suffer additional six months imprisonment.
It stated that Rana used to live at Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira district and on July 8, 2005 he kidnaped the 14-year old victim and her 12-year friend. He took them to a hotel a Jashore and raped the elder girl.
Tipped off by the locals, the family members rescued the duo and filed a kidnap and rape case on July 9, that year.
The victim was a student of class-V of Khordo BRAC School of Kalaroa upazila.
The Public Prosecutor of the case Jaharul Hidar Babu said after taking depositions from nine witnesses and reviewing all the documents, the court handed down the verdict in absence of the accused.The convict remains absconding.UNB
