Man killed over land in Gaibandha


A man was killed and others injured in a land related clash between two rival groups at Fulhar village in Gobindoganj upazila on Saturday.The deceased was identified as Hatem Ali, 42, son of Jhanu Mondol of the village.Quoting locals, police said there had been a long standing dispute between Hatem and a local Nurunnobi Miah over the ownership of a piece of a land.As a sequel to the enmity, an altercation ensued between Hatem and Nurunnobi when Nurunnobi and his men went to the disputed land to plant paddy at noon.
At one stage of altercation, men of Nurunnobi hit Hatem with sticks, leaving him dead on the spot.Six others were injured in this incident.The injured were rushed to Gobindoganj upazila health complex.Police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.A B M Jahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gobindoganj Police Station, confirmed the incident. -UNB, Gaibandha
