A Dhaka court on Saturday granted police 10 days to interrogate Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna in a case filed on sedition charges. The fresh remand came only two days after police finished grilling him in another case.
Gulshan Police Station Inspector (Investigations) Firoz Ahmed said the court ordered ten days in police custody for Manna after they produced him before it on Saturday afternoon.
On Feb 25, another Dhaka court had granted police 10 days to question Manna in the case filed for inciting the army.
The sedition case against him and BNP Vice-Chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka, who is currently in the US, was filed with Gulshan police on Thursday.
The first case against him was filed when RAB handed him over to the Gulshan police on Feb 25 a day after picking him up from a house in Dhaka’s Banani.
A reported leaked phone conversation between Manna and BNP leader Sadek Hossain Khoka in February had reportedly revealed plans to destabilise the government.
Former student leader Manna had been pushing for a dialogue between the Awami League and BNP to end the current political impasse.
After the reported phone conversations were published in a section of the press Manna did want to make his position clear at a press conference, but he was arrested before the scheduled programme. – News Desk
