This time, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has demanded the government to prepare a list of the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971 similar to that of the freedom fighters’ list.“There is a list of freedom fighters, those of us who fought in the Liberation War. We are receiving honorarium. Should not we honour the martyrs too?” he asked while speaking at a protest meeting at the Photo Journalists Association Auditorium in the capital on Saturday.
Earlier on Thursday, BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy also made similar demand to name the 30 lakh martyrs of war of liberation before filing sedition case against party chairperson Khaleda Zia
The meeting was organized by organised Dhaka city unit of JAGPA, an ally of the BNP-led 20-party alliance protesting the sedition case filed against the BNP Chief Khaleda Zia for her controversial comment regarding the number of Liberation War martyrs.
Defending Khaleda Zia’s remark, Nazrul said that the BNP chief did not mention any number of the martyrs in her speech.
“People will not accept the case. Khaleda cannot be punished in the case,” he added.
The BNP leader said the present government is filing cases against Khaleda Zia one after another as it fears the BNP Chairperson for her popularity and to divert people’s attention to other things. He urged the government to withdraw the case immediately.
Presided over by JAGPA Dhaka city unit President Asadur Rahman, the meeting also spoke among others, by party President Shafiul Alam Prodhan and General Secretary Khandakar Lutfar Rahman.
