Mashrafe to focus on performance instead of ODI ranking

Dhaka  – Bangladesh national cricket team’s limited-over captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza on Saturday said he wants to focus on coming up with good performances instead of advancement in the ranking in the series Afghanistan and England.“We will show our best to win the series. Many people can think many things, but we don’t want to leave any opportunity for the opponent,” Mashrafe told reporters at the pre-series press conference at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) on Saturday,UNB News Agency Reported.
“The main focus is to win the three ODIs against another national team. The first match is very vital for us….It is important to make
start well, so the focus is all about winning the first game,” the Narial Express added. The Tigers’ will take on Afghanistan in the 1st match of the day-night series at SBNCS at 2:30 pm (Bangladesh time) Sunday. The remaining two ODIs are scheduled to be held on September 28 and October 1 at the same venue. The Tigers will play another three-match ODI series against England, billed for October 7, 9 and 12 in Dhaka and Chittagong. If Bangladesh can manage 3-0 series victory against Afghanistan and 2-1 against England, they will move up to the 6th in the ODI ranking list leapfrogging another world champion nation Sri Lanka by virtue of decimal points. But the Tigers’ skipper does not want to think about the rank ahead of the series instead of playing all-out aggressive cricket with their best.Mashrafe is happy with the availability of Taskin for the first two ODIs hoping the 21-year old will come up with good performance.“It is great that his (Taskin) bowling action was found legal. I hope he can pick up from where he left off in international cricket,” Mashrafe said. The skipper expressed his regret for missing left-arm pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman for the series due to injury. “To be honest, we will miss the Fizz,” Mashrafe added.
