Dhaka – Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will miss the lone one-day warm-up match against University West Indies (UWI) Vice-Chancellor’s Eleven in Kingston, Jamaica on Thursday.Mashrafe, who left Dhaka for the West Indies early Tuesday by an Emirates Airlines flight to join the Bangladesh team in Jamaica, reached New York on Wednesday after stopovers in Dubai and Milan (Italy) and will fly for Jamaica on Thursday noon.
As per the delayed journey schedule due to sickness of his wife Sumi, Mashrafe has no scope to play in the Thursday’s warm-up match, but two ODI specialists cricketers — top order batsman Enamul Haque Bijoy and cutter master Mustafizur Rahman — have a good chance to play the warm-up match as they already reached Jamaica.
However, the Narail Express, Mashrafe, will have two a day-time to make practices with the Bangladesh team in Jamaica before playing the three-match ODI series against the West Indies beginning on Sunday (July 22) at Providence.
Bangladesh cricket team, now touring West Indies under the leadership of all-rounder ShakibAl Hasan, were whitewashed in the two-match Test series with an innings and 219-run defeat in the first match making their over lowest Test total of 43 runs and conceding a 166-run defeat in the 2nd Test.
Apart from the first two ODIs at Providence on July 22 and 26 and 3rd ODI at Bassetenne on July 28, Bangladesh team will play a three-match T20 series against the Caribbean team on July 31 at Bassetenne and rest two at Lauderhill on August 4 and 5 respectively.
