Meeting on Durga Puja held in Gaibandha


A meeting to celebrate the Sharadiya Durga Puja, the biggest religious
festival of the Hindu Community, was held in the conference room of
deputy commissioner (DC) here on Thursday.
With Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique in
the chair, the meeting discussed elaborately various issues, including
overall preparations and security measures, for a smooth celebration
of the forthcoming puja in the district.
The leaders of puja celebration committee informed the meeting that a
total of 558 puja mandaps would be erected in all the seven upazilas
in the district.
Of the total, some 122 puja mandaps would be erected in Sundarganj
upazila, 105 in Gobindaganj upazila, 101 in Sadar upazila, 100 in
Sadullapur upazila, 59 in Palashbari upazila, 54 in Saghata upazila
and 16 in Fulchhari upazila.
The five-day puja would begin on October 10 and conclude on October 14
through the immersion of idols.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by additional police
super Mosarrof Hossain, executive engineer of Bangladesh Power
Development Board Anwarul Haque, Sadar UNO Mamunur Rashid, assistant
commissioner Jahangir Alam, president of district puja celebration
parishad Ranajit Bakshi Surja and general secretary Principal Paresh
Chandra Saha.
Speaking on the occasion Abu Bakar Siddique urged the Hindu community
to celebrate the festival with much enthusiasm and religious fervor in
the district.
He also called the law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and
