Militants & extremists have taken the control of the country: Fakhrul

Dhaka-The BNP yesterday alleged that the existence of militancy has flourished in the country instead of getting crushed due to reluctance of government.“The organised militants have been creating sanctuaries within the country one after another and their existence has been flourished rather than getting crushed,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
In a statement, he alleged that the militants and extremists have apparently taken the control of the country due to lack of reluctance of the government.
The BNP leader said a big question has arisen in the minds of the people as to whether the government is willing at all to overcome the existing situation created by militants since the government could not achieve a credible success in resisting militancy.
“Panic and fear are continuously mounting among all due to extreme failure of the government to control the militants,” he said.
Fakhrul made the statement protesting the killing of priest Ananda Gopal Ganguly in Jhenaidah early hours of Tuesday.
The statement, signed by assistant office secretary Asadul Karim Shahin, said the frightened people are suffering from sense of insecurity as deadly attacks by militants have become unstoppable.
The BNP leader criticised the government ministers and ruling party leaders for their frequent remarks terming the law and order situation good claiming no existence of militancy in the country.
The militants are being encouraged with their remarks and shifting the blame on the opposition, he observed.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi termed the government’s commitment to weed out militancy a political bluff and witty strategy.
“The reluctance of the government on militancy is pushing the people towards black holes,” he alleged.
The BNP leader further alleged that there is a spate of submitting charge sheet against Khaleda Zia in different cases to divert the attention of people.
He said country’s social and political balance has been destroyed because of use of state machinery on political purposes.
“The government has lost its abilities to find o9ut the dens of the militants. The government has failed in every respect,” he said.
BNP joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokan, Shama Obayed, among others, were present at the press conference held at party central office at Naya Paltan.-STAFF REPORTER
