Military Police-Injured in attack with sharp weapon


A military police (MP) was injured by a miscreant who attack him with sharp weapon while he was on-duty near Katchukhet crossing of Dhaka Cantonment area in the city on Tuesday morning.
Contacted, Assistant Commissioner (Pallabi Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan poice Zakir Hossain said a man, wearing lungi, suddenly attacked the on-duty MP with ‘Ram Da’ (Sharp weapon) at around 10:00 am.The man was detained by the security personnel along with the sharp weapon, AC Jakir said.
The injured army man was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate said “a passer-by carried out the attack with a sharp weapon from behind”.
The incident took place at around 10am on Tuesday when the law enforcers were investigating the recent murders of two policemen at checkpoints. Sharp weapons had been used in the previous attacks on police.
Tuesday’s victim, Lance Corporal Samidul Islam, was admitted at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka Cantonment.
Blood was smeared on the spot but the military’s press wing said the injury was minor in nature.
In a statement issued hours after the incident, the ISPR said, “Other military personnel on duty have detained a suspected attacker. An investigation has been launched to get the details.”
But, the ISPR did not name the suspect. Kafrul Police Station OC Shikder Mohammad Shamim Hossain said no case had been filed until the evening.
Dhaka Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said there was no way of saying anything about the motive, the group behind the attack, or its patrons without investigation.
Neither police nor the ISPR was clear about how the incident could take place amidst tight security in the cantonment area.
The military policeman (MP) posted at the checkpoint had stopped a rickshaw entering the cantonment area.
When he was about to deflate the tyres, the rickshaw-puller struck him with a sharp weapon from behind.
One of those present at the scene, Md Salahuddin, said he had witnessed the sequence of events leading up to the attack.
Other media, quoting witnesses, said the around 35-year-old attacker wore a shirt and a lungi.
He was arrested at a house next to North Kafrul High School after being chased by other policemen.
On Nov 4, three miscreants had fled by a motorcycle after hacking a policeman to death at a checkpoint at Ashulia in Savar. Another policeman was also injured.
