Dhaka – Personal officer of Press Counsellor Iqbal Hossain at Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad Jahangir Hossain who went missing on Monday evening returned home ‘unhurt’ after nearly seven hours.
Confirming his return, an official said Jahangir returned home around 12:45am on Tuesday (Pakistan time) but could not tell about reasons behind his missing and how he came back.Earlier, detectives here on Monday detained an official of Pakistan High Commission for his ‘suspicious movement’.
However, the official, assistant private secretary at the Press Section — Abrar Ahmed Khan – was released and handed over to the High Commission at 6pm. He was picked up at 11am from near his residence in Gulshan area, police sources said.
Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (Media), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) M Maruf Hossain Sardar said the DB men detained Abrar Khan for questioning following his suspicious movement and was handed over to officials of the Pakistan High Commission after taking ‘undertaking’ from him.
The DMP official said the officials got 3,500 Indian rupees after searching Abrar’s body.
The incident of Jahangir’s missing seems to be a counter action on what happened in Dhaka the same day, diplomatic sources said.
Jahangir went to pick up his daughter from a coaching center after completing his office hours in the evening.
Jahangir’s daughter however, did not find her father there and kept waiting for hours, said the official.
Later, she called her mother and informed the matter.
Jahangir’s cell phone remained switched off and the High Commission officials could not find him out.
Bangladesh High Commissioner in Islamabad Suhrab Hossain informed the matter to Pakistan Foreign Ministry and police seeking steps to find out the missing staff.- UNB
