Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to have a meeting with BNP chairperson and former Bangladesh premier Khaleda Zia in Dhaka on Sunday.
Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar made the announcement while talking to reporters in New Delhi yesterday.
The meeting with Khaleda will take place after Modi’s meeting with his counterpart Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Raushan Ershad.
The announcement ended the speculation whether Modi will have a meeting with Khaleda during his visit to Dhaka. The Indian premier will also meet some left leaders.
The meeting between Modi and Khaleda is considered as important one following earlier refusal to meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee when he had visited Dhaka in 2013.
Sources said the meeting will take place at 4:00pm on Sunday at Hotel Sonargaon, where Modi will stay during his visit to Dhaka.
Talking to reporters BNP chairperson’s adviser Sabihuddin Ahmed yesterday said how could it think that Modi would not have a meeting with Khaleda Zia when the country is passing through a critical juncture.
“Indian foreign secretary also confirmed it,” he said.
The adviser said the Indian authority has confirmed him that the meeting between Modi and Khaleda will take place at 4:00pm on Sunday.
BNP sources said the party chairperson would present a paper on the BNP’s policy on the state of Bangladesh’s socio-economic, political issues and bilateral relations with India. – Staff Reporter
