Monsoon depression brings heavy downpour to Bangladesh

Dhaka -The monsoon depression over coastal gangetic West Bengal and southwestern part of Bangladesh moved northeastwards and lies over Khulna and adjoining area on Wednesday morning and is likely to move northwards further.
Under its influence, steep pressure gradient persists and deep convection is taking place over north bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, said a met office special weather bulletin. Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, north bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, it said.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no 3.
The coastal districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Patuakhali, Barisal, Bhola, Pirojpur,
Jhalakati, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars (Shoal emerged from the riverbed) are likely to experience wind speed up to 50-60 kph or more in gusts or squalls.
Low-lying areas of the coastal districts Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirojpur, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are
likely to be inundated by tidal surge of 3-4 feet height above normal astronomical tide.
All fishing boats and trawlers over north bay have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice. – UNB
