Dhaka – Traffic congestions at the end of different exit ramps of Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover will be reduced further within a month as the authorities are working with the traffic department, said the chief engineer of Local Government Engineering Department.“The traffic congestion on the flyover has already been reduced. We will monitor the state of traffic jam in and around the flyover and take necessary measure within a month,” said Shyama Prasad Adhikari, the chief engineer of the LGED while visiting the flyover at Mouchak point yesterday.
Terming the construction of the flyover as a part of the Strategic Transport Plan for Dhaka (STPD), he said the people would get cent percent benefit from it after total implementation of Strategic Transport Plan for Dhaka (STPD).
There are 76 features of the STPD including and construction of metro rails. This flyover is one of them. Thus, traffic congestion will totally be reduced after the completion of all the plans, he elaborated.
On signalling system on the flyover, he said they introduced it considering the narrow corridors of the flyover.
The chief engineer also claimed that such signalling systems had been introduced in other countries including India and Tanzania.
On huge traffic congestion following its inauguration of the flyover on October 26, he said it happened because of a deluge of onlookers. It should not be considered normal traffic within seven days of the inauguration, he said.
Shyama Prasad said the traffic congestion has already been reduced within a week and hoped that it would be eased further after a month.
He said the flyover at a cost of Tk 1218.89 crore has been constructed at a low cost comparing the other flyover projects. – Staff reporter
