Movement can’t be diverted by calling DCC polls: BNP

BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday described the Prime Minister’s order for Dhaka City Corporation elections as a mantra and said she has taken this option in a bid to prevent her government’s imminent fall.
“Sheikh Hasina often comes up with ‘Chhu mantra’ like a magician. Now our movement has got a momentum and people want a national election and the fall of the regime forthwith… but she’s trying to prevent her government’s fall with a new ‘Chhu mantra’ by speaking about the DCC polls,” he said. The BNP leader was addressing a discussion at the party’s Nayapaltan central office arranged by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, marking the Begum Rokeya Day.
Rizvi also said the government is trying to divert people’s attention from their movement by speaking about the DCC polls.
Earlier in the day, Fakhrul, talking to reporters, said the government is speaking about Dhaka City Corporation elections only to confuse people about the opposition’s ongoing movemnt.
Rizvi said their current anti-government movement will not stop until the fall of this regime is ensured.
He alleged that the government is repressing and harassing the opposition leaders and activists by using the law enforcers only to cling to power.
Claiming that Sheikh Hasina has lost ground beneath her feet after getting isolated from people, the BNP leader said the throne of the Prime Minister has started shaking and it will go upside down any time.
Rizvi said though the government utters about women empowerment and development, it is not sincere about it.
Referring to indecent remarks of the Prime Minister and her cabinet and party colleagues about BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, he said their offensive remarks about a top woman leader exposed how disrespectful the government is about women. – UNB
